Nutritious meals

Feed-a-Child

Feed-a-Child is nutritious meals for children. The breakfasts are powered by Big Five Foods products: fortified porridges, soya mince, one-pot meals and soups made for households, schools and catering. When a kitchen needs the larger pack, Big Five Foods also makes 5kg institutional packs. The foundation has published a fortified breakfast for children aged 2 to 5 in the early childhood development centres it supports.

Why a breakfast matters

The foundation cites childhood stunting of 29% among children under five in the UNICEF 2024 South Africa report. Its own poster cites 28.8% — nearly 1 in 3 south african children under five — from the National Food and Nutrition Security Survey, reported 2024.

Chronic undernutrition can harm growth, brain development and learning. Feed-a-Child answers that with a fortified breakfast at the ages of 2–5, in the ECD centres the foundation supports.
