A nutritious start. A stronger future.
Our goal at Restore Africa Foundation is to help ensure that every child in South Africa between the ages of two and five starts the day with a nutritious breakfast of fortified porridge.
Feed a Child brings donors, volunteers and community organisations together to improve food security for children. To date, we have distributed 42,000 nutritious meals to 18 NGOs, including children's feeding schemes and houses of safety, reaching from Ballito to as far as the West Rand in Gauteng.
Our food support includes fortified porridge and one-pot meals. Every contribution helps the organisations caring for children put nourishing food on the table.

Why we do it
Supporting nutrition during the early childhood years.
The National Food and Nutrition Security Survey reported stunting in 28.8% of South African children under five — approximately three in ten. The South African Human Rights Commission highlighted this finding in October 2024.
Stunting is impaired growth reflected in a child being too short for their age. Poor nutrition and repeated infections are major contributors. It is associated with difficulties in learning and development, as well as poorer health outcomes.
Why a fortified breakfast matters
Fortification adds vitamins and minerals to food. A suitable fortified porridge can help improve nutrient intake and address dietary gaps. Its contribution depends on the product's nutritional composition, the portion served and how regularly it is eaten.
Our focus is reliable access to a nutritious breakfast for children aged two to five, alongside the wider food support provided through our NGO partners.
The first 1,000 days, from pregnancy to a child's second birthday, are especially important for preventing stunting. Our breakfast goal supports continued nutrition in the years that follow. A fortified breakfast forms part of a broader response that also includes varied food, clean water, healthcare and responsive care.
The 28.8% figure is a survey finding reported in 2024, not a new measurement for 2026.

Every meal matters
Behind every meal are people who care: those who give, those who deliver and those who prepare and serve the food.

Help us reach further
Support a food contribution, help with distribution or partner with Restore Africa Foundation to reach more children through trusted community organisations.
Together, we can help make a nutritious breakfast a regular part of a child's day.
